Talk show host, game show host, comedian and executive producer would all be acceptable titles for Mark L. Walberg. He is copartners with TV personality Mark DeCarlo in GlugginMARX Productions and lives with his wife of 13 years, Robbi.
FOXcom_Host: I have "tempted" you long enough
-- our guest is here! FOXcom_Host: Welcome, Mark!
Mark_Walberg: Hi, everybody! Mark_Walberg: I am in my office in Hollywood.
TsaeB: I love the show, how many episode will there
be?
Mark_Walberg: Six episodes.
CHEATA: WHAT IS THE SCANDAL IN THE PAPERS ALL ABOUT?
Mark_Walberg: Well, the major scandal is
that it has been discovered that one of the couples has a child.
That is something we found out midway through the taping. The
show deals with it in a very responsible manner as you will see
in upcoming epsiodes!
chapman: who thought of something like this?
Mark_Walberg: That was the brainchild of Chris Cowan. Mark_Walberg: He is the executive producer.
Yoshi: Who is being kicked off the island for having
kids?
Welker: I hear that one couple get's kicked
off for having a kid... is this tru?
Mark_Walberg: I can't tell you who that is, you will have to watch!
carrot: is the show all scripted?
Mark_Walberg: No, there is no script. As
a matter of fact, nothing said on the show is written.
manny: will any of the guys be bad boys?
Mark_Walberg: Well, boys will be boys!
Let's just say that.
manny: mark, what where the singles jobs as far as tempting
the couples go?
Mark_Walberg: The singles were told nothing
about that. They were told upon arrivial what the concept of the
show was, but there was no coaching as to what they should do
once they were there.
exactaman: do any of the singles hook up
Mark_Walberg: The single men and women
did not have a chance to see each other very much, so no.
theLEGACY: do I have a chance with any of the chicks?
Mark_Walberg: Well, not knowing who you
are, I would say absolutely!
chelle: MARK... I WANT TO GO ON THE ISLAND WITH MY BOYFRIEND...
HOW CAN I APPLY?
Mark_Walberg: Well, they have yet to agree
to doing Temptation Island 2, but when they do I would
imagine this Web site would be a good place to check. Though you
may want to think about it twice!
DeviantGirl: What are the motivations for the singles?
Mark_Walberg: I think most were motivated
by the chance to be on television and to go to Belize for two
weeks. Though some were probably there to see if they could find
someone to be in a relationship with.
bz_man: How long did it take your to put
this show together. And what influences did Survivor have on its
design?
Mark_Walberg: Well, we taped the show from
September 1529 but they have been edited quite a bit. There
were over 1,000 hours of videotape to screen.
Mark_Walberg: I think the tropical setting
was partly influenced by Survivor, but other than that
there is not a lot of similarity.
Wend: How long were the couples and singles actually
there?
Mark_Walberg: Two weeks.
Wend: Were you with them the whole time?
Mark_Walberg: I was there the whole time but did not spend my time with them.
wanderer: What made you want to host this show???
Mark_Walberg: I was intrigued by the sort of moral dilemma played out and I thought the complexity of the head game would be very interesting.
bOyA: mark: did you have anything to do with the actual
production of the show?
Mark_Walberg: The only thing I had to do
with was my role in it. We talked about what we wanted to impart
discussion-wise, but I was not a producer on the show.
drea: mark, is anyone on the island (couples &singles)
being paid?
Mark_Walberg: Not to my knowledge. I think
there was an honorarium given to everyone for the rights of their
story, but not a paycheck as you would think of it.
CHEATA: DO THE SINGLES GET A BONUS IF THEY MAKE SOMEONE
CHEAT
Mark_Walberg: No, there is no bonus structure
to motivate them to cheat.
DeviantChild: Could the banned singles go against instructions
and date someone they werent supposed to?
Josh: Mark, Is there anything the singles
can't do besides going on a date with the one they got picked
to stay away from?
Mark_Walberg: Well, the dates themselves
were set up by the producers. By the rules, if you were blocked
you could not go on that date. But nothing stopped them from fraternizing.
Keep watching because there will be a change with that whole "blocked"
thing.
TNTITAN: How far away from each other are the couples
on the island?
Mark_Walberg: It is about a couple miles.
Hard to tell because we went by boat. You had to walk through
jungle to get there!
Gigi: Did the participants have unlimited alcohol available
to them ?
Mark_Walberg: No! As a matter of fact I think it was a cash bar.
exactaman: What did the first 2 people get for being
kicked off the first day
Mark_Walberg: If I am correct, I think
everyone stays until the end, just at a different place...outside
the loop of the show.
Christine_deborah: Mark, why did the crew accept that
dark girl with the curly hair on the show? It doesn't make sense.
If the releationship is obviously already pretty close to being
over what's the point?
Mark_Walberg: Well, you are making an assumption
that that relationship was close to over; that is not necessarily
true.
brad: did anyone want to leave the island after they
arrived
Mark_Walberg: I don't know. I would venture
a guess that some of the singles as they left weren't so upset
that it was time to go home. I don't remember anyone specifically
saying they wanted to go home. If they wanted to, they could go.
Str8tupdiva: Is there an ATM machine on the island
Mark_Walberg: Yes, there is an ATM; you
would have to go all the way to town.
islander: were the people kicked off pretty bummed or
flattered?
Mark_Walberg: I think generally they were bummed.
islander: what criteria did you use to choose the couples?
Mark_Walberg: I was not part of that process and I know very little about it. I can tell you that over 250 couples applied and they chose four.
Satan: so mark are they paying you well for all this?
and does your significant other approve? being that more women
object to the show
Mark_Walberg: My rent is getting paid and
my significant other, my wife, approved wholeheartedly...mostly
because my rent was getting paid ;-)
singlegal: What other projects are you working on? Any
other reality shows coming up?
Jimoula: ASK HIM WHAT OTHER SHOWS HE WORKS
ON!!!!! please
Mark_Walberg: Personally, I have a production
company with my partner, Mark DeCarlo, and we have a show that
we created and produced on the Odyssey network called Sunday
Dinner.
Wend: are you still doing "shop 'til you
drop"?
Mark_Walberg: No, I am not doing Shop
'til You Drop, but I did do it for 4 years.
Shell: why wasn't this made for HBO or so it didn't
have to be edited so much.....now that could have been very interesting
Mark_Walberg: Good question! It was an
idea that came from the executive producer at FOX so that is why
it is on FOX, but it would have been great on HBO!
mindri0t: can we look forward to seeing more skin in
future episodes? this chicks are HOT!
Mark_Walberg: They are pretty good-looking
and all I will tell you is that it was about 98 degrees so it
made sense to not wear a lot of clothing!
SoMeDuDe: Dont you think this type of show is destructive
to the american culture? What kind of example is this for our
younger generation?!?!
Mark_Walberg: I am glad you asked! I think
the viewers who watch can't help but engage in a conversation
about morality and the lines they draw in their own relationships.
I don't think it is dictating anything, but I think it is fostering
a very healthy conversation.
hippytrippygypsy: are you willing to accept partial
responsibilty for the demise of american morals?
Mark_Walberg: That is ridiculous. If you
think television can dictate the demise of American morals, you
are giving a lot of power to television. I would much rather know
if I am with the one I am supposed to be with before I get married
rather than after.
drea: Mark, would you participate in something like
this?
Mark_Walberg: No way.
scarlet: I think it is a great show. It is like art.
It has a certain shock factor. You may hate it or love it, but
it affects you. That is good.
Mark_Walberg: Thank you, I agree. Though
I am not so sure it is art.
Wend: why not?
FOXcom_Host: Why not participate?
Mark_Walberg: I wouldn't participate in
the show because for me, personally, that is not the way I would
want to find out the answers about my relationship. I met my wife,
we dated for a year, got engaged and a year later we were married.
I didn't have the questions that these couples have about commitment.
joe59: are there winners in this game or is it just
a learning experience for the couples?
Mark_Walberg: There isn't a winner or a
prize except that one might say that the prize is each couple
will definitely know the true value of their relationship by the
end of the process.
CHEATA: why did the couples look so surprised on the
first show when you told them they had ten minutes left to be
with each other before they are separated for two weeks? did they
know? or do yu think it was regret!1
Mark_Walberg: They knew that at some point
they would have to say good night. When I told them they only
had 10 minutes, it sort of snuck up on them.
exactaman: How intimate did the filming get before the
couples told you to turn off the camera
Mark_Walberg: The couples never told us
to turn off the cameras because they were always running.
DeviantChild: Are cameras "off limits" and not allowed
to tape if a couple is getting "intimate"
Mark_Walberg: No, part of the agreement was that cameras will be there at all times.
Vahottie: How much did they edit out as far as sex and
fighting
Mark_Walberg: Good question. I really don't
know the answer except that I don't even know that there was any
sex that actually happened.
Wend: Do you win anything if your not tempted?
Mark_Walberg: No, there is no prize. It
is a very real reality show.
wanderer: what is your response to the fundamentalists
charges???
Mark_Walberg: My response is everyone is
entitled to an opinion. Everyone can choose whether or not to
watch. I am only surprised that they based their opinion on the
promos and before they had seen any of the episodes. That might
have been a little rash.
Kdogg: do you think the critics views of the show will
boost ratings due to the amount of negative publicity?
Mark_Walberg: No question about it. A perfect
example is in Episode 1 everybody puts a bracelet on the persobn
they want to block from dating, and that makes them even more
appealing to that person. It is the same as when critics say,
"You better not watch this show," that makes people
want to watch it more.
Blossom: What do you think of the way Television is
going these days, you know, this current wave of "reality TV"?
Will it last?
Mark_Walberg: Anyone who is a student of
television knows that nothing lasts for long and that everything
will come back again. Audiences watch for as long as they want
and when they get tired, we come up with something new.
Blossom: Has there been any talk about doing a Temptation
Island for gay couples?
Mark_Walberg: It is the first I have heard
of it, but I would watch! Mark_Walberg: I think they should have put a few gay people
into the mix on this one.
NSDQ160th: do these people have to be attractive to
be picked for the show??
Mark_Walberg: Yes, attractive either physically
or mentally or both. After all, it is Temptation Island!
stanton: what was the hardest temptation for u to resist.
Mark_Walberg: The hardest temptation for
me to resist was to actually show up to work and not just go snorkeling
every day.
islander: What have you personally learned from hosting
the show...anything about relationships?
Mark_Walberg: I learned that temptation
is often different from men than from women. Men are tempted by
flesh and women by the heart. The heart seems much more dangerous!
joe59: did any of the contestants get violent, it looks
like billy might by looking at the previews...
Mark_Walberg: Nobody was physically hurt,
no.
rico: Hi Mark, were any of the attached ladies or single
ones tempted towards you?
Mark_Walberg: I don't think so. Everybody
was so gorgeous on that island I think I was invisible.
Aero: Mark, are singles permitted to tempt with nudity
?
Mark_Walberg: I guess. There were no rules
about how they tempt. I think there might have been a couple skinny-dipped
nights.
Monkey_Guy: how many dates do each of the coupled people
have to go on?
Mark_Walberg: I am not really at liberty to tell you, you will have to watch! Sorry.
girl: do you watch the show at home
Mark_Walberg: I have watched it because
I have not seen the final versions. So, yes!
Mandy: Can you give us any hints about what is gonna
happen with the couples?
missmayfest_01: mark what happens tonight?
Mark_Walberg: Let's just say, so far we
haven't even seen it begin. Tonight you will see the first dates
and the first bonfire, quite an interesting part of the show you
will be seeing regularly.
DeviantChild: Do you think the couples went into this
knowing what could potentially happen, or was this an eye opener
for many of them?
Mark_Walberg: I think on some level they
knew what potentially could happen, but as the game is reality,
it opened everybody's eyes.
Kdogg: if there is indeed a season 2 would u host again,
or even be interested?
Mark_Walberg: Sure, I would do it again.
Mark_Walberg: Would you want me to?
armonde: Mark, you're so dreamy would you ever be a
guest on Temptation Island
Mark_Walberg: Thank you for the compliment,
but after 13 years of marriage I will stay where I am.
drea: You are the show's ONLY host, man!
Mark_Walberg: Thanks, Drea, I appreciate
it because the critics have not necessarily agreed!
Vahottie: have you received any negativity from friends
or family for doing the show
Mark_Walberg: Not really. I think if anything
I have had people who expected it to be one thing and were surprised
to see it was more of a mental game than a skin game when they
watched the show.
Mark_Walberg: P.S. My mother loves the show.
CHEATA: was temptation island the highlight of your
career or most mermroable job so far?
Mark_Walberg: I really enjoyed doing my
talk show as well, but this is certainly an exciting time.
Beppy910: I think that this show is a great idea...
except the fact that people are going to get hurt... but I guess
that they all knew that before they got themselves into this!
Mark_Walberg: Yes, that is exactly right
and better they go through the pain now rather than after they
are married and possibly with a family.
fjkdls: What do you think motivates the couples to do
this?
Mark_Walberg: I think at first it seemed
like a fun idea and a chance to get a vacation and be on TV.
CJ: What constitutes losing out to temptation, and what
motivation is there for the "singles" to push the couples to temptation?
Mark_Walberg: Good question...there is
no tangible motivation other than the chemistry between single
people!
Pietrar: Marc - being married, does it make you more
thankful for what you have? My husband and I watch the show and
are quite thankful we are no longer have to worry about 'temptations"...but
than again, it is our worse fear - like most couples.
Mark_Walberg: I agree 100%. Yes, I am more
thankful and every day I am grateful I don't have to be single.
Fitz: Do you feel that these couples are more likely
to be acceptable of infidelity during their marriage.
Mark_Walberg: No, absolutely not. I think
after this they certainly will know the value of fidelity!
mossy: In your opinion, did any of the couples try to
create jealousy for their partner? It is a pretty exciting show!
Mark_Walberg: I don't know if anyone did
it maliciously. I don't think so.
Aero: Have you gotten along with the couples so far
?
Mark_Walberg: Very much...very well.
rickrush: Who was the most attractive woman in your
opinion?
Mark_Walberg: Tough question. Of the single
girls, I would say they are all so beautiful. Hard to call.
Pietrar: Was your wife with you on location during the
shooting of the show, or do you watch together now?
Mark_Walberg: We do watch together now,
but she was there for part of the shooting time. I wanted her
to be part of it.
Heathr3: do you have counsellors there for the couples?
Mark_Walberg: Yes.
Monkey_Guy: were any of the singles checked for STD's
before coming on the island?
Mark_Walberg: Everyone was!
CHEATA: is there a prosedure or backround check to make
sure theses people are in a real relationship and not just two
people trying to score a free trip.?
Mark_Walberg: Yes, extensive background
checks.
Tosha: I like the show but I think the couples participting
are looking for a breakup
Mark_Walberg: Interesting opinion! I would
say whether they know it or not, forgive the pun, they are tempting
fate. Maybe subconsciously they are looking to break up.
DeviantChild: Are the singles chosen based on what each
person in the couple likes?
Mark_Walberg: To some degree that was a
consideration, based on the profiles the couples said they were
interested in. That had some influence over who was picked.
drea: Are all of the guys as short as they seem?
Mark_Walberg: Kaya is really tall and so are many of the single guys! Sean is like 6'4" and so is Johnny!
NSDQ160th: how did lola corwin end up on the show??
she's a celeb!
Mark_Walberg: If she is a celebrity that is news to me. She applied and made the cut. How is she a celebrity?
temptationMan: did one of the couples get kicked off
the show b/c they had a child at home?
Mark_Walberg: It is true that one couple
turned out to have a child, and yes, they were removed from the
Temptation experience. You will have to watch to see how
that is done.
evilmistress: why does it matter that they have a child?
Mark_Walberg: It matters greatly! This
show is an extreme experience meant for consenting adults. If
there is a child, that constitues a third party that had no choice
in the process...and that's not cool.
Wend: then why didn't you know they had a child?
Mark_Walberg: Background checks were done,
several pieces of paper were signed saying they did not have children,
and as soon as it was found out that they did, a course of action
was taken.
petermark: Do you think alcohol should be a part of
the show?
Mark_Walberg: I don't think alcohol was
an integral part of the show but these were adults and they can
have a drink if they want.
Kev28: What if one of the guys is "tempted" by another
guy?
Mark_Walberg: That would be an interesting
turn of events, wouldn't it? Nothing wrong with that!
mouselady1: Do you think any of the couples just wanted
to do what feels good and then get back together at the end of
their stay?
Mark_Walberg: Maybe in the beginning, but
it is not that simple is it?
DeviantChild: Is there a follow-up show to let us know
who stayed together?
Mark_Walberg: I think that would be cool and there is talk about a possible 7th episode where we would bring all the couples into the studio and see how they are doing now. Would you like to see that?
FOXcom_Host: I would!
mossy: was everyone monitored 24 hours a day, or did
they have time to have fun without the camera?
Mark_Walberg: There was always a camera
around, but there were ways to not be on camera. It's hard to
cover that many people 24 hours a day.
nakes: so no matter what happens they still get to spend
the rest of their vacation at the resort?
Mark_Walberg: No, not at those resorts.
Once they are voted off they leave the island and go to a totally
separate place.
Bearcattut: is there anyone else on the island..people
who live there?
Mark_Walberg: Yeah, there is the town of
San Pedro south of where we were which has about 4,000 residents;
very few people where we were.
Loto: Where would you like to go to shoot the next episodes
if you got picked up?
Mark_Walberg: Good question! I really liked
Belize! Though it was so hot that if you had asked while I was
there I would have said Vail.
doogs: A follow up show is a great idea.
Str8tupdiva: Yes that would be great to
see the couples after the show
Mark_Walberg: I agree. Mark_Walberg: Keep your fingers crossed!
FOXcom_Host: Mark, thanks for taking the time to chat with us!
Mark_Walberg: It was my pleasure and thanks
for your support, everybody!
FOXcom_Host: Come back and chat again! FOXcom_Host: Goodbye! FOXcom_Host: Check back for the transcript of today's event on FOX.com tomorrow! FOXcom_Host: Bye, all!
