EPISODE #2 - The Blind Date
Original Air Date: January 17th, 2001

Episode 2 begins at the coupled guys' resort, Captain Morgan's Retreat (CMR). Host Mark meets Kaya, Andy, Taheed and Billy for breakfast and asks what happened after they said goodbye to their girlfriends. Flashbacks reveal escapades from the night before as the single ladies pursue the guys, especially Billy. Mark wonders if the men are experiencing butterflies. The guys reveal that they have good reason to be nervous - they've heard that there are a few "crocodiles" among the single women who will stop at nothing to get their man.

Later that morning, Mandy, Ytossie, Shannon and Valerie meet Mark at Mata Chica. Much like their partners, the women are experiencing some first date butterflies. Shannon, in particular, is so nervous that she can't eat breakfast. Mark tells the women that their blind dates (four single guys) will be coming to pick them up at their cabanas shortly.

The coupled men and women are swept away by their blind dates, and each date begins a day filled with excitement amidst the breathtaking surroundings of Belize. The blind date sequences begin with Kaya and Valerie: Kaya dates Alison, the doctor (who once posed for Playboy); Kaya's girlfriend, Valerie, dates Charlie, the television talent scout. Kaya has a terrific time with Alison. In stark contrast, however, Valerie glimpses Kaya with Alison before her date begins and it shakes her. She likes Charlie, but the incident puts a damper on her entire first date.

Taheed dates LaWonna, the teen crisis counselor. Ytossie dates Sean, the massage therapist. LaWonna is attracted to Taheed because he has a "smooth operator edge" about him. Taheed says this was the best date he's ever had, even more phenomenal than his first date with Ytossie. Unfortunately, Ytossie's date with Sean is a total bust because she finds him too young and self-absorbed. Ytossie refers to Sean as "the pretty package" she should have never opened.

Andy dates Megan, the schoolteacher (and former Laker Girl) while Shannon dates Matt, the public relations manager. Andy makes an instant connection with Megan and ends the date in a hammock with her, caressing her legs. Shannon is pleasantly surprised by Matt's insistence on buying her wine - something Andy would not do.

Last is Billy and Mandy's blind date sequence. Mandy dates Keith, the entrepreneur; Billy dates Lisa, the bartender. Billy thinks Lisa has a fantastic personality and he is drawn to her sexy eyes. Lisa is equally entranced by Billy and proclaims that he's one of the coolest guys she's ever met. Mandy and Keith have a good time scuba diving, but he has more fun than she does. Mandy looks forward to dating some of the other single guys with whom she's made more of a connection.

With the blind dates completed, the informal nighttime activities begin. At CMR, the coupled men chat in their cabana, speculating that the single men at Mata Chica are going to be a lot more aggressive than the single women. Meanwhile, at Mata Chica, the coupled women have caught wind of a rumor that the single women are "all over" their guys. Morale at the coupled women's resort is low, so they devise a competition for the single guys to put on their most provocative outfits and convince the women why they should keep them around. The contest begins with several single guys' spirited presentations. Soon the competition intensifies, and Jim, who appears to be dressed as a shepherd, quickly whips off his robe, leaving nothing to the imagination. If nothing else, the women have shown that they can have just as much fun as their partners.

A new day begins (Day 4). Mark joins the coupled women on the beach at Mata Chica. He informs them that just as they had speculated the night before, they must now vote off a single guy. To aid in the women's decision, the single guys are given one last chance to prove their worth. Ultimately, Maceo (Ytossie's block) is sent away because of his poor attitude. Not only did he smash his guitar the night before, but the women find him self-absorbed.

On the other side of the island, Mark informs the guys that they must vote off one single girl from their pool. The single girls line up and, because of her behavior, Lola is chosen to leave.

Night falls and the coupled men are summoned to a mysterious bonfire, which will become a ritual throughout the two-week trip. Mark asks the guys a series of questions concerning their experiences and those of their partners. Some of the men's responses prove lighthearted, others painful. The men are given the opportunity to watch an interview clip from their partners' blind dates. The catch is that if they choose to watch it, their mates will have no choice but to watch an interview clip from their own blind date. Billy and Taheed want to see the clips; Kaya and Andy don't. Hearing Keith's positive spin on Mandy, Billy doesn't seem overly concerned. Then again, since Mandy likes all different types of guys, Billy begins to worry. Taheed is delighted that Ytossie did not enjoy the "the massage guy" Sean. At the end of the bonfire, the men are given the option of leaving a video message for their partners to pick up the next morning. All the guys except for Taheed choose to leave a video message.

Later, Mark goes through the bonfire ritual with the coupled women. Because of the choices the guys made, Mandy and Ytossie must watch interview clips with their partners' dates, but Valerie and Shannon cannot. Provoked by Lisa's enthusiasm for Billy, Mandy becomes upset to the point of tears. She doesn't want any girl having "a good time" with Billy. After viewing an interview clip from Taheed's date, Ytossie denies she is upset, but her tone betrays her anger. Given the opportunity to communicate via video, Valerie, Mandy and Shannon are excited to leave video messages, but Ytossie absolutely refuses. Both the women and men then return to their respective resorts, anticipating the next set of adventures that await them on Temptation Island.
