Upon his 150th birthday, Professor Farnsworth becomes concerned for his legacy, and decides to name a successor. The crew, who were convinced it would be one of them, are shocked when the Professor unveils his heir - a preteen clone of himself! When the precocious clone, Cubert, proclaims he doesn't want to be a scientist but something useful, like a science fiction cartoon writer, the Professor becomes despondent. He reveals his true age, 160, and allows himself to be sent to the "Near-Death Star" for forced retirement. The crew uses the Smelloscope to locate the mysterious retirement planet and enacts a dangerous rescue mission. In the end, saving the Professor makes Cubert a believer in the power of science!
