While at a taping of his favorite cooking show, Essence of Elzar, Bender gets overly excited and tries to snap a picture of Elzar in action. The flash stuns Elzar who accidentally sprays a peppery substance into Leela's eye, blinding her. Afterwards, Elzar feels horrible and offers to prepare the group a fabulous meal at his restaurant. They accept - not realizing that Elzar is going to charge them full price! When they can't come up with the cash, everyone gets arrested, so Bender volunteers to work off the bill by bussing tables.
During one of his shifts, Bender meets a group of Robot Mafia guys. They are impressed with Bender's chutzpah and offer him a chance to join them on a cigar heist. In order to pull it off, Bender fakes illness to the Planet Express crew and makes them think he's resting in his room. On the Mafia ship, he's shocked to find out that their target is the Planet Express ship! After a wild exchange of gunfire, Bender and the Mafia bots board the ship. By blindfolding the crew and adopting a fake accent, Bender escapes recognition. He helps with the heist and offers to stay behind and "take out" the crew. With the Mafia guys gone, Bender pretends he's been on board all along - and none of his friends realize the truth.
